Herbal doping – for athletes and active people

Are there natural ways to increase your body’s performance and improve your sports performance? Those that are safe and their use does not cause side effects? Probably many people will answer that such natural boosters do not exist. And they could be wrong here!. Meet the best herbs that increase body efficiency.

Herbs in sport

We associate the word with doping with something illegal, bad and inappropriate, especially in competitive sports. Doping affects the functioning of the body and artificially improves physical performance, and the improvement of sports performance should depend primarily on hard training, proper diet and the athlete’s commitment, not on the chemical substances and backup of doctors and pharmacologists.

Herbal doping is becoming more and more popular in the world of sport competitors, useful for both competitive athletes and people involved in amateur sports. The substances contained in the plants naturally support the body and are safe, effective and above all legal.

Rhodiola Rosea – natural doping in sport

Rhodiola Rosea (rosary or arctic root) is an ideal aid for athletes. It is an adaptogen and adaptogens are plants that affect the body’s adaptability to stress factors. Above all, however, Rhodiola Rosea increases physical and mental performance.

Rhodiola Rosea plant

One of the mechanisms of the Rhodiola actions is to increase the production of ATP ( adenosine triphosphate ) in muscles, which is an energy carrier for cells. Increasing its secretion means that muscle cells have more energy to work with.

Rhodiola also has a positive effect on muscle regeneration processes after intense training and also reduces muscle damage after a lot of effort – a lower level of C-reactive protein (CRP), which is an indicator of inflammation, has been observed in people taking the rosary extract. Athletes usually notice its high concentration after intense training.

The rosary is called natural doping – it is used in the prevention of muscle damage resulting from very intense workouts. The use of arctic root also accelerates the disappearance of soreness, swelling and exudation.

Celandine herb

Celandine works differently than the rosary, it primarily affects protein metabolism. In the intestine, proteins are digested into amino acids that partially undergo decarboxylation and deamination processes, resulting in a reduced amount of absorbed amino acids and thus a deterioration of the protein balance.

The products of these processes also adversely affect the entire body. Drinking an infusion of celandine inhibits the processes of deamination and decarboxylation in the large intestine, thanks to which more amino acids are absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and the amino acid balance and consequently the protein balance are improved.

A larger amount of amino acids is involved in the formation of muscle proteins. Thanks to the beneficial effect of celandine on the digestion of proteins and reduction of the secretion of harmful substances – ketones, amines and hydrogen sulfide, celandine has a very positive effect on well-being, muscle function, liver, and also has a positive effect on the work of the nervous system. Celandine is used in the form of infusion prepared from the dried herb. It is important that this is a high-quality herb, collected during flowering and stored in the appropriate conditions.

Nettle leaf – a natural strengthening of the body

Nettle is a source of vitamins and minerals. It has a strengthening and cleansing properties, has a positive effect on metabolism, improves the digestive system and increases the absorption of nutrients from food consumed. Nettle infusion has a diuretic effect – it increases the amount of urine excreted and with it unnecessary waste products, also reduces swelling and cleansing. Regular drinking of nettle infusion or fresh nettle juice increases haemoglobin and red blood cell counts. Nettle does not directly improve performance, but it strengthens and has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the whole organism.

Is natural doping a good description of herbs that increase body function? Of course, you can argue – substances that artificially increase efficiency while causing side effects are considered as performance doping. Herbs affect the body by naturally supporting physiological processes, positively affecting the body’s efficiency, without side effects, in a safe and effective way.
